Most Australians that visit New Caledonia arrive by cruise ship but there are also those that go for resort style holidays. Tahiti is mainly visited for resort holidays.
New Caledonia and Tahiti are both part of the French pacific and use the Central Pacific Franc. The Currency Exchange keeps a stock of Pacific Francs, but it is best to order them in advance if you can – especially if you are travelling with a group. We can usually only source 1000 Franc notes (about A$11 equivalent), but can get larger notes if you require a larger amount.
ATMs will be available in most cities but may be limited beyond the city limits. All ATMs will dispense local currency. If you are taking a Cash Passport to the french pacific it is best to load your funds in Australian dollars. However, if you are just visiting a resort, it is probably just as easy to take foreign cash with you.
