Purchase Japan Yen with Australian Dollars. Your amount will round to 1000 Japan Yen. We will provide you with a mix of denominations. If you need something specific please enter a comment at the bottom of the checkout page.
Japan is increasing in popularity for Australian tourists – especially in the ski season. There are some tours in Japan but most visitors to Japan are independent travellers or are part of a group.
The Currency Exchange keeps a stock of Japanese Yen, so you don’t usually need to order them in advance, but that can be a good idea if you are after a larger amount or are travelling at a busy time (eg skiing season). We keep 10,000 5,000 and 1,000 notes (about $100, $50 and $10 worth) in stock.
Ironically for a country with a strong technological reputation there are not many ATM machines in Japan. This has improved in recent years and ATMs will be available in most cities but may be limited beyond the city limits. Feedback has told us that ATMs are available in 7/11 stores and the post offices and that most shops will accept the Cash Passport for purchases. A lot of people do still take cash only – especially if they are going skiing. All ATMs will dispense local currency. For your Cash Passport we recommend loading Japanese Yen as it is one of the currencies available.
