Bali has been a favourite holiday destination for Australians for many years now. It is also now becoming increasingly popular for schoolies. As part of Indonesia, the currency used in Bali is Indonesian Rupiah.
We keep a stock of Indonesian Rupiah, so you don’t usually need to order them in advance, but that can be a good idea if you are after a larger amount or are travelling at a busy time. We keep 100,000 and 50,000 notes (about $10 and $5 worth) but may have some smaller if we have bought them in from returning customers.
ATMs will be available in most cities but may be limited beyond the city limits. All ATMs will dispense local currency. If you are taking a Cash Passport to Indonesia it is best to load your funds in Australian dollars. Many of the main tourist hotels have an ATM in the lobby. This is a safer environment to withdraw your cash. ATMs are also available at supermarkets and banks. We have heard that most Indonesian banks are not charging an additional fee to withdraw money, but Australian bank ATMS (such as ANZ) may be. This information is from returning customers and is subject to change.
