At present we can mainly get 2000 Rupee notes. These are worth about $44 Australian. We will provide you with a mix of denominations if we can. If you need something specific please enter a comment at the bottom of the checkout page and we will do our best.
There is an import/export restriction of 25,000 Rupees per person.
India (and increasingly Sri Lanka) is the main destination that Australians visit on the Indian sub-continent. This is mainly on tours but there is also some travel related to cricket.
ATMs will be available in most cities but may be limited beyond the city limits. All ATMs will dispense local currency. If you are taking a Cash Passport to India it is best to load your funds in Australian dollars. Many of the main tourist hotels have an ATM in the lobby. This is a safer environment to withdraw your cash.
The restriction on taking Indian currency into India has recently changed and has now increased to about $500 worth. In late 2016 the Indian Government withdrew 500 and 1000 Rupee notes from circulation overnight. This caused widespread problems, but we have recently started buying and selling Indian Rupees – although stocks will be limited so it is best to order them in advance.
